Riven Ball
Some people may know of or perhaps even have played the hugely popular 1997 PC puzzle game Riven, the sequel to Myst. Despite the age of the game, a large fan base remains.
Gilded wooden spheres were found in a few locations throughout the game and gave essential clues to solving further puzzles. When rotated, within their mountings, a sound could be heard, and on the back, a numeric symbol could be seen.
This one was hand carved out of a solid, turned elm sphere. The recessed areas were then sealed and gilded in 23.5 ct gold leaf. The gilding was not burnished as this would have detracted from the desired aged and weathered effect.
