Unfound is an artist studio.
Sculpture, installation, and bespoke fabrication
for private collectors, public spaces, and brands.
We are interested in the authority of handmade objects — pieces that announce themselves not through size or spectacle but through the unmistakable evidence of having been made by people. Our studio practice moves freely between sculpture made for its own sake and work made within commercial and architectural constraints. We consider both equally serious.
On Material
Concrete is our primary material — specifically low-carbon glass fibre reinforced concrete (GRC / GFRC). We chose it not for its associations with industry but for its responsiveness: it can be sculpted and cast into almost any form, takes fine surface detail, and cures into something that reads as both ancient and contemporary. It is also, in our formulation, surprisingly light — a critical property for installation and transport.
We work alongside concrete in timber (hand-carved and lathe-turned), acrylic, copper leaf, gold leaf, and mixed media. Material choice is always driven by the work's demands, not our habit.
On Process
Every commission begins with a conversation. We are interested in what you cannot yet picture — the thing that feels out of reach or impossible to find. That ambiguity is where we do our best work.
We prototype before we commit. Every significant commission receives concept renders and, where scale demands it, a physical maquette before fabrication begins. This is not a hedge against failure; it is how we make something genuinely better than what was first imagined.
On Scale
Our work ranges from a hand-carved object that fits in the palm to a public sculpture at eight feet. We do not have a preferred scale. We have a preferred degree of difficulty — which is high. The work that interests us most is the work that requires us to solve a problem nobody has solved in quite this way before.
On Sustainability
We use low-carbon GRC as a conscious material choice. We design for permanence — work built to be kept, passed down, and outlast the context it was made for. We reject planned obsolescence, in material and in aesthetic. What we make should still be meaningful in thirty years.
Materials
We work in a small number of materials chosen for their responsiveness to making by hand, their durability, and their honesty — they look like what they are.
Low-carbon glass fibre reinforced concrete. Lightweight, durable, and capable of extraordinary surface detail. Our primary medium.
GRC / GFRC Concrete
Hand-carved and turned. We work with hardwoods sourced in New Zealand and overseas, chosen for grain, density, and character.
Timber
Used where light transmission or colour depth matters, backlit elements, cast inclusions, and mixed-media work.
Acrylic & Resin
Copper, steel, and gold or copper leaf used as accent, inlay, or structural element depending on the brief.
